Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +40 points at 8,221. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning in what investors will hope will be the beginning of a recovery after last weeks sell off to end the week.

 

Markets in Asia were broadly lower this morning, The Nikkei 225 index was hovering around its lowest level in almost a month, as it slipped 2.1% in morning trading to 35,613.32. Japan’s gross domestic product grew by an annualized 2.9% in the second quarter, according to revised data from the Cabinet Office released on Monday. This was below expectations.  Stocks in Chinese markets also racked up losses after worse-than-expected inflation data disappointed investors.

 

US futures are higher this morning after Fridays sell off, as weaker than expected US jobs data caused all three major indices to end both Friday and the week in the red.  The S&P slid 1.73% to settle at 5,408.42, while the Nasdaq Composite shed 2.55% to close at 16,690.83. The tech-heavy index ended the session more than 10% off its record close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 410.34 points, or 1.01%, to end at 40,345.41.

C&C Group delivered numbers this monirng saying performance was in line with expectations with underlying profit of €39m-€41m

 

Computacenter this morning said Half 1 profit before tax was £87.2m, missing market estimates of £94.9m. Q3 had seen an encouraging start and they expect stronger momentum in H2
