Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -64 points at 8,240.  The UK 100 looks set to open sharply lower this morning having started the week on the front foot yesterday.

It was a difficult session for traders on Wall Street yesterday, rising oil prices paired with higher treasury yields weighed on stock prices.

The Dow Jones dropped 398.51 points, or 0.94%, ending at 41,954.24. The S&P 500 slid 0.96% to 5,695.94, and the Nasdaq lost 1.18% to close at 17,923.90.

In Asia this morning markets were also volatile, in Hong Kong The Hang Seng index dropped by 7% as shares gave back a lot of recent gains.

Oil traded around 2% lower, trading just over the $80 per barrel level.

Imperial Brands has increased its shareholder returns programme by £400m after confirming it finished the fiscal year with in-line results, with growth in both tobacco and next generation products

 

Vistry cut its fiscal 2024 profit outlook by 80 million pounds ($104.7 million) on Tuesday, hurt by a one-off impact due to a revision in development costs in one of its divisions.  The company said it expects adjusted profit before tax in the year ending Dec. 31 to be about 350 million pounds.
