Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +81 points at 8,295.  The UK 100 looks set to test 8300 for the first time this morning, this follows a strong week for the UK’s blue chip index, which saw a record high close before the bank holiday weekend. Driven by Shifting expectations of near-term rate cuts both in the UK and across the Atlantic fuelled much of the market optimism.  Yesterday the Dow Jones climbed 176.59 points, or 0.46%, to close at 38,852.27. It was the fourth consecutive winning session for the 30-stock index. The S&P advanced 1.03% to end at 5,180.74, and the Nasdaq gained 1.19% to reach 16,349.25.

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

BP reported Q1 earnings of $2.7bn, missing forecasts of $2.87bn while the company extended their $1.75bn share repurchase programme. The results reflected lower energy prices and the impact of Whiting refinery outage and a significantly weaker fuels margin. Those were partially offset by significantly lower level of turnaround activity at BP facilities as well as a strong oil trading result and higher realised refining margins.

IWG reported Q1 2024 revenue of $912m, up from $911m YoY. They have 141,000 rooms open with a pipeline of 138,000 rooms signed but not yet opened. They are focused on improving margin and controlling overheads across the group.
