Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +8 points at 7,689.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning following a strong trading session yesterday which saw the blue-chip index hit its highest intraday levels since 11th January.  Markets may also take cheer from a late rally on Wall Street yesterday which saw all three major benchmarks ending the day higher, The S&P rose 0.23% to settle at 4,954.23, while the Nasdaq inched up 0.07% to close at 15,609.00. The Dow Jones jumped 141.24 points, or 0.37%, to end at 38,521.36.  It was however a more mixed session in Asia this morning.

 

 

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Ashmore reports that their HY profit surged 38% YoY, underpinned by higher asset prices as investor sentiment stabilised. Their profit before tax was up 38% YoY at £74.5m for the period ended Dec 31st 2023.

 

Barratt Developments will buy Redrow in an all-share deal that valued the smaller rival at around £2.52bn. Despite the challenging macroeconomic backdrop, underlying demand for their houses are strong as Barratt expects to deliver total home completions of between 13,500-14,000 in FY24.

 

DCC has reiterated their operating profit guidance for the year as 2023 trading was modestly ahead of the prior year. They expect the year ending 31st March 2024 will be another year of operating profit growth in line with expectations.

 

Just Eat Takeaway hires Mayte Oostervled to be their new CFO.

 

PZ Cussons have forecast lower annual profit and slashed their interim dividend, hurt by currency devaluation in Nigeria. They expect an adjusted profit before tax of between £55-60m with an interim dividend of 1.5p per share.

 

Redrow says their H1 results are “resilient” despite “subdued housing market”. They have given a 2024 pretax profit guidance of between £180-200m which is at the lower end of guidance.

 

Sainsbury’s plans to begin a £200m share buyback over course of the next FY.

 

Smurfit Kappa report a FY pretax profit of 1,055m euros.
