Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open flat at 8,240. The UK 100 looks set to open flat this morning this comes as the pound sits around an eight month low against the dollar.

The Hang Seng index and Shanghai Composite are slightly lower this morning, despite PMI figures from China’s services sector beating expectations at a seven month high.

Stocks closed higher Friday as Wall Street recovered following a shaky start to the new year.  The S&P closed up 73.92 points, or 1.26%, at 5,942.47, and the Dow Jones advanced 339.86 points, or 0.8%, to end the day at 42,732.13. The Nasdaq gained 340.88 points, or 1.77%, to close at 19,621.68.

Balfour Beatty, today announces that, further to its trading update announcement on 5 December 2024, it has appointed its corporate brokers to manage an initial tranche of its 2025 share buyback programme and to repurchase Ordinary Shares on its behalf up to a maximum aggregate consideration of £50 million, intended to be completed by 30 June 2025.
