Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -34 points at 7,606.  The UK 100 looks set to open lower this morning in a continuation of yesterday’s pull back for the UK’s blue chip index.  Retail sales data released this morning by the BRC showed a rise of 1%, coming in far below the 1.5% forecasted growth.  Stocks on Wall Street retreated Monday, pushing the S&P and Nasdaq off all-time highs, despite a rallying group of technology stocks tied to the artificial intelligence boom.  The S&P shed 0.12% to 5,130.95, while the Nasdaq slipped 0.41% to 16,207.51. The Dow Jones lost 97.55 points, or 0.25%, to finish at 38,989.83.

Ashtead Group now sees their FY group rental revenue growth at the low end of 11-13% range.

 

Greggs posted a 13% rise in annual profit after sales jumped as it extended store opening hours to evenings and built up its partnership with food delivery channels.

 

GSK says ViiV Healthcare announces positive phase 1 cabotegravir study findings.

 

Intertek Group report a 2023 pretax profit of £422.3m, up from £419.8m YoY. They have declared a 2023 final dividend of 74p, up from 71.6p YoY.

 

IWG reported a 34% rise in annual core profit, buoyed by increased demand for its flexible working spaces and pricing strength. Core profit came in at £403m for the year ended Dec 31st, ahead of average analyst estimates of £397.6m.

 

Travis Perkins reported a 39% drop in annual profit due to weakness in the housing market. They have forecast their 2024 adjusted operating profit to be in the range of £160-180m. Analysts estimate that their 2024 profit will be between £150-231m.
