Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -28 points at 8,331.  The UK 100 looks set to open slightly lower this morning, giving back some of yesterday’s gains that saw the UK’s blue chip index approach an intraday level of 8400.

The S&P inched higher Tuesday, eking out another record close.  The broad market index added 0.05%, ending at 6,049.88. The Nasdaq advanced 0.40% to close at 19,480.91, hitting a new intraday record as Apple  rose to a fresh 52-week high. The Dow underperformed, losing 76.47 points, or 0.17%, to settle at 44,705.53.

Asian markets retreated Wednesday after overnight political drama in South Korea added to regional uncertainties, though the Kospi fell less than 2%.

Centrica has announced the extension of the lives of its four operational Advanced Gas-cooled reactor nuclear power stations alongside its partner, EDF.

 

IQE announced this morning that it has completed the sale of its decommissioned site in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. As a result of the sale, IQE will receive $2.5m immediately and a further $3.0m before the end of the year.

 

Vodafone Group announces that Simon Dingemans will be appointed as a non-executive director with effect from 1 January 2025 and join the Audit & Risk Committee. Simon will stand for election by shareholders for the first time at Vodafone’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.  Simon is an experienced leader and former chief financial officer with a varied career combining both operational and financial roles.
