GSK have raised their annual profit and sales forecast after strong growth in its cancer and HIV portfolio. They expect their profit for the year to rise between 11-13%, while sales are expected to grow between 7-9%. They reported a H1 pretax profit of £2.85bn, down from £3.89bn YoY.
HSBC reported a slight drop of 0.4% in H1 profit, beating analyst estimates, as its businesses benefited from higher interest rates worldwide while robust growth in its wealth business boosted revenue. They reported a H1 pretax profit of $21.6bn, versus $21.7bn a year earlier. The result compared with $20.5bn of average analyst estimates. They have appointed Jonathan Bingham as interim CFO from September 2nd.
Rio Tinto reported a largely flat HY underlying earnings growth from a year ago as slightly weaker iron prices were partially offset by stable shipments. They reported underlying earnings of $5.8bn, compared with $5.7bn a year ago and consensus of $5.8bn.
Taylor Wimpey expects to scale their annual home build targets towards the upper end of its previous outlook range, as easing mortgage rates boost hopes of a near-term demand recovery after it posted a HY profit slump. They reported a H1 pretax profit of £99.7m.
