Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +20 points at 7,688.  The UK 100 is expected to open higher on Wednesday as the market awaits the interest rate decision and commentary from the US Federal Reserve.  Stateside yesterday saw the S&P end Tuesday near the flatline.  The benchmark slipped 0.06% to close at 4,924.97. The Dow Jones added 133.86 points, or 0.35% to end at 38,467.31, marking its seventh record close this year. The Nasdaq pulled back 0.76% to finish at 15,509.90.

Anglo American state they saw solid consumer demand for diamonds in the US over the holiday period as their De Beers rough diamond sales in 1st cycle of 2024 came in at $370m.

 

GSK beat market estimates for Q4 profit and sales, underpinned by a strong launch of its RSV vaccine Arexvy and steady demand for its shingles shot and HIV medicines. They reported a profit of 28.9p per share on sales of £8.05bn, compared with analysts’ average expectations of 28.63p profit on sales of £7.29bn. They expect their adjusted profit per share to increased between 6-9% in 2024, on sales growth of 5-7%.

 

ITM Power report a H1 pretax loss of £18.2m, narrowed from £56.5m YoY.
