Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -15 points at 7,440.  The UK’s blue chip index is expected to open slightly lower this morning as the pound climbed against the dollar, following dovish remarks from officials of the US Federal Reserve last night.  Christopher Waller, known to be one of the Fed’s most hawkish policymakers said “I am increasingly confident that policy is currently well positioned to slow the economy and get inflation back to 2%”.  Wall Street was buoyant yesterday, with all three major indices closing in the green The Dow Jones added 83.51 points, or 0.24%, to close at 35,416.98. The S&P inched higher by 0.10% to 4,554.89, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.29% to end the session at 14,281.76.

Deliveroo have reaffirmed their 2023 profit guidance ahead of investor presentations later today where they are set to reiterate their plan to reach an adjusted earnings margin of more than 4% by 2026.

 

 

Halfords Group have narrowed their annual profit forecast range, lowering the upper end of its expectations due to challenges in the sales of their discretionary categories amid a cost-of-living crisis. They now expect their fiscal 2024 underlying profit before tax to fall within the range of £48-53m. They had previously forecast £48-58m range.

 

 

Pennon Group report a H1 adjusted pretax profit of £9.1m.
