Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -22 points this morning at 8,643.  The UK 100 looks set to open lower for the final trading day of the week.  UK retail sales data out this morning, including auto fuel rose 1% in February from a month earlier.   That’s a slower rate of increase compared to January, but they had been forecast to have dropped 0.4%, so this is an upbeat surprise.  Also out this morning was the final GDP figure which came in largely as expected, confirming quarterly growth of 0.1%.  On an annual basis the final figure was slightly better than the provisional reading, with growth of 1.5% compared to the 1.4% reported earlier.

Stocks fell on Thursday Stateside as investors weighed the latest tariff-related news from President Donald Trump, including his new tariffs aimed at foreign automakers.  The Dow Jones dropped 155.09 points, or 0.37%, to end at 42,299.70. The S&P declined 0.33% to close at 5,693.31, and the Nasdaq slid 0.53% to settle at 17,804.03.
