Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +11 points at 7,480.  The UK 100 is expected to post modest gains when trading starts on Thursday after US markets climbed ahead of Thanksgiving.   On Wall Street yesterday, markets posted strong gains with the Dow up 0.5%, the S&P 500 up 0.4% and the Nasdaq up 0.5%.

Company News:

FirstGroup report that their outlook for FY24 is in line with their expectations. They are on track to have more than 600 electric buses, over 600 charger heads and four fully electric depots in England by March 2024. They reported a H1 2024 total loss before tax of £68.4m verses a profit of £8.7m in H1 2023.

 

Jet2 posted a 19% jump in H1 operating profit after it took more people on holiday, with more customers opting for higher-margin package holidays.

 

Londonmetric Property state that they are on track for a ninth consecutive year of dividend progression as they report a H1 rental income of £76.9m.

 

Mitie Group remain on track to deliver a FY24 operating profit before other items guidance of at least £190m.

 

Virgin Money reported a FY profit below market estimates, pulled down by pressure on lending margins and stubborn inflation that squeezed bank’s returns. Their underlying profit before tax slumped 24% to £593m for the 12-month period, compared with a forecast of £625m by average analyst estimates.
