Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +45 points at 8,195.  The UK 100 looks set to advance again this morning, having gained during yesterday’s trading session, adding 64 points, taking the weekly gain to 69 points with todays session to go.

Yesterday Stateside The Dow Jones gained 461.88 points, or 1.06%, to finish at 43,870.35. The S&P 500 added 0.53% to close at 5,948.71. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was the underperforming index, still managing to add 0.03% to end at 18,972.42.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P rose Thursday as investors poured into cyclical stocks which are reported to be set to benefit from an accelerating US economy and rmoved out of technology shares.

GSK this morning have announced that Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has approved a regulatory application to extend the indication of Arexvy (respiratory syncytial virus vaccine, recombinant adjuvanted) for the prevention of RSV disease to include adults aged 50-59 at increased risk. Since September 2023, GSK’s RSV vaccine has been approved in Japan for adults aged 60 and over for the prevention of RSV disease.

 

Ofgem has today announced a 1.2% increase of the energy price cap for the period covering January-March 2025.   The change to the price cap – which sets a maximum rate per unit and standing charge that can be billed to customers for their energy use – will rise by £21 for an average household per year or around £1.75 a month.
