The UK 100 called to open -9 points at 7,590. UK 100 is set to edge lower on Thursday at the open, after an outperformance following UK inflation data yesterday. In the US Wall Street ended higher with the Dow closing +0.3%, S&P +0.2% and Nasdaq closed marginally higher. In Asia on Thursday the Nikkei closed -1.2%, Shanghai -0.3% and Hang Seng +0.2%.
Babcock International reports that their FY23 pretax profit falls to £6.2m from £182.3m YoY. They state that overall FY24 expectations for profitability are unchanged.
BHP met FY production guidance for copper, iron ore, metallurgical and energy coal.
EasyJet swings to a Q3 pretax profit of £203m from a loss of £114m YoY as ticket yields soared 22% YoY on the back of an ongoing rebound in summer travel demand.
Howden Joinery reported a H1 pretax profit of £111.9m down from £145m YoY. They are confident on their FY outlook as their expectations are unchanged.
Premier Foods expects their FY23/24 trading profit to be at the top end of market expectations.
Vistry has flagged an intensifying slowdown in the house building sector as a surge in mortgage rates in recent months weighed heavily on housing demand. They reaffirmed their forecast of an adjusted pretax profit for the year ending Dec 31st at excess of £450m.
