Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -4 points at 7,647.   The UK 100 looks set to open close to flat, this follows on from a mixed start to the week for the UK’s blue chip index.  Asian shares mostly declined in cautious trading Tuesday ahead of the Federal Reserve’s looming decision on interest rates.  Japan’s benchmark, the Nikkei dropped 1.2% in morning trading. Australia’s S&P/ASX lost 0.4% while South Korea’s Kospi edged down 0.3%. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng slipped 0.1%, while the Shanghai Composite fell 0.1%.  This follows a broadly positive session on Wall Street yesterday, the S&P edged up 0.1% to 4,453.53, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose less than 0.1% to 34,624,30. The Nasdaq composite added less than 0.1% to 13,710.24.

GSK says ViiV Healthcare’s Apretude has been approved by the European Commission for HIV prevention.

 

 

Hargreaves Lansdown beat its annual profit estimates, supported by net new business growth as rising interest rates pushed investors to take advantage if the investment platform’s Active Saving services. They reported an annual profit before tax of £402.7m, higher than the company-compiled consensus of £379.4m.

 

 

Kingfisher has downgraded its annual profit forecast to £590m from £634m, to better reflect its trading environment and said it would focus on managing costs.

 

 

Ocado have maintained their FY profit outlook as they reported a 7.2% rise in Q3 revenue, with a return to positive volume growth in the last month of the quarter.

 

 

Renishaw reports a FY pretax profit of £145.1m.

 

 

SThree says trading was in line with market expectations for the FY.
