The UK 100 called to open +61 points at 7,520. UK 100 is called to open higher this morning as the key inflation data, CPI slowed more than expected to 7.9% YoY below 8.2% expected. This is one of the main indicators the Bank of England uses to determine their interest rate policy going forward. In the US on Tuesday Wall Street ended higher with the Dow +1.1%, S&P +0.7% and Nasdaq +0.8%. In Asia the Nikkei closed +0.8%, Shanghai -0.4% and Hong Kong -1%.
Antofagasta reports that their Q2 copper production increased 2.5% to 149,600 tonnes up from 145,900 YoY.
Aviva guides their 2023 operating profit to grow 5-7% from £1.35bn in 2022. The restatement of their results have had no impact on dividend guidance of £915m in 2023. Their 2022 restated business operating profit is £1.9bn, down 15% from IFRS 4 basis.
Hargreaves Lansdown report that their Q4 net new business came in at £1.7bn up 6% QoQ, supported by investors buying into tax-free investment products. Their closing AUM came in at £134bn in the quarter ended June 30th, +2% from end of March.
National Grid are to sell a further 20% interest in UK gas transmission and metering business.
Restaurant Group are confident of meeting management’s expectations for FY.
Rio Tinto reported a 1% drop in Q2 iron ore shipments as train derailment in June offset continued production ramp up at its Gudai-Darri mine. Iron ore prices eased over Q2 on concerns over China’s debt-ridden property sector, but prices have since recovered on expectations the country will take the path of stimulus measures to shore up its economy.
Severn Trent expects financial performance to be in line with expectations this year.
