Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -14 points at 8,295.  The UK 100 looks set to open slightly lower this morning coming off the back of a strong session yesterday, Kicking off a big day on the macroeconomic front, yearly UK inflation came in at 2.2%, squarely hitting the market forecasts.  Core inflation, which strips out the food and energy sectors, came in slightly hot at 3.6% against the 3.5% forecast, while the retail price index also came in slightly hot.

 

It was a mixed session all Wall Street yesterday, as investors awaited this evenings Federal Reserve interest rate decision. the S&P closed higher by 0.03% at 5,634.58, after earlier touching an all-time high of 5,670.81. The Dow Jones inched down 15.9 points, or 0.04%, to close at 41,606.18. The 30-stock index also hit a fresh record during the session. The Nasdaq advanced 0.2% and ended at 17,628.06.

 

Markets in Asia this morning traded broadly higher with the Japanese Nikkei, the S&P/ASX in Australia and South Korea’s Kospi all traded higher.

AstraZeneca‘s Fasenra, used for the treatment of adult patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis has been approved in the US for eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis.  New indication supported by the MANDARA trial which showed nearly 60% of patients achieved remission and 41% of patients fully stopped taking oral corticosteroids

 

Legal & General Group today announces that it has agreed the sale of the UK house builder CALA Group for an enterprise value of £1.35bn, to Ferguson Bidco Limited, an entity owned by funds managed by Sixth Street Partners and Patron Capital.

 

Games Workshop Group announces that trading for the three months to 1 September 2024 has been in line with the Board’s expectations.

 

PZ Cussons reported a 10.6% drop in revenue to £527.9m for the year ended 31 May on Wednesday, with a significant impact from the devaluation of the Nigerian naira. Despite that, like-for-like revenue grew by 4.4%, driven by price increases in Nigeria, although overall profit before tax fell 39.7% to £44.7m. The company said it was continuing its strategic focus on portfolio transformation, including plans to sell its St Tropez business and potential divestment of its Africa operations, while also seeing positive revenue growth early in the new financial year.
