Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open flat at 8,063. The UK 100 looks set to broadly flat this morning.

On Friday concerns over the path of interest rates stateside saw momentum from the post election rally pause, The Dow Jones lost 305.87 points, or 0.70%, to end at 43,444.99. The S&P slipped 1.32% and closed at 5,870.62, while the Nasdaq fell 2.24% to 18,680.12.

Oil prices are lower this morning despite  escalating Russia-Ukraine tensions over the weekend, as China’s decreasing fuel demand looms. Gold is rebounding after prior dips.

Company News:

Halma this morning announces that it has acquired Lamidey Noury Medical. 

 

IQE said on Monday it would start a strategic review of its assets and warned annual revenue would be flat year-on-year due to slower-than-expected recovery and weak consumer demand in end markets.  IQE said it would broaden its options in relation to the proposed initial public offering of its Taiwan operations to include all strategic options, including a full sale.

 

Melrose Industries said it remains on track to meet full year expectations, despite the industry-wide supply chain challenges. Revenues for the four months to 31 October rose 7% on the same period in 2023, with Engines up 17% on the back of a strong aftermarket performance.  The Structures division grew 1%, impacted by the supply chain challenges and previously announced customer destocking.  The FTSE 100-listed group continues to target a profit figure in the range of £550 million and £570 million, rising to its £700 million target in 2025.
