Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -12 points at 7,434.  The UK 100 looks set to open slightly lower today, but stabilise somewhat after a rout yesterday for global markets, this followed weak economic data from China plus the prospect of interest rate cuts being pushed back later into 2024 after strong inflation figures in the UK, robust retail sales data in the US and comments from ECB President Christine Lagarde who hinted at summer rate reductions.  On Wall Street yesterday, the Dow Jones declined 94.45 points, or 0.25%, to close at 37,266.67. This marked the third straight day of losses for the 30-stock index. The S&P slid 0.56% to close at 4,739.21, and the Nasdaq lost 0.59%, ending the session at 14,855.62.
