The UK 100 called to open -6 points at 8,439. The UK 100 looks set to open marginally lower this morning, Overnight, the three major US stock indices all closed at new record highs too, as softer inflation report strengthened rate cut expectations. The Nasdaq gained 1.4% and the S&P 500 added 1.2%, while the Dow Jones rose 0.9%.
Anglo American have suspended hiring globally as they plan to simplify themselves and build value to avert a $43bn takeover bid by BHP Group.
BT Group have set out on a path to more than double their free cash flow over the next five years as they pass the peak of its investment in fibre networks. They will increase their dividend by 3.9% to 8p per share after free cash flow beat expectations. They reported a FY pretax profit of £1.186bn.
EasyJet’s CEO Johan Lundgren will step down in early 2025 and be replaced by current CFO Kenton Jarvis. They reported a bigger-than-expected H1 loss ahead of a busy summer season that could be undermined by potential pilot strikes. They reported a pretax loss of £350m, compared with an expected loss of £340m according to average analyst estimates.
International Distribution Services are set to agree a £3.5bn takeover by Daniel Kretinsky if the Czech billionaire tables a formal offer.
United Utilities missed market expectations for annual profit as pricier consumer bills failed to offset a steep rise in costs. They reported an adjusted operating profit of £517.8m for the year ended March 31st, compared with average analyst expectations of £522.2m.
Vistry Group have raised their annual homebuilding target by around 3% to over 18,000, buoyed by resilient demand for its affordable homes. Their total sales rate averaged at 0.96 units year-to-date, compared with 0.87 a year ago and has improved by 1.23 units over the last eight weeks.
