Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -38 points at 8,144. UK 100 is set to open lower on Tuesday despite dovish Fed & Bank of England comments. US Fed reserve chair Jerome Powell said yesterday that recent data lifts the central bank’s confidence that inflation is coming down towards its 2% target. Q2 earnings season continues in the US with Bank of America and Morgan Stanley due to report before the US open today. Wall Street ended higher on Monday with the Dow closing +0.5%, S&P +0.3% and Nasdaq +0.4%. Equities were mixed in Asia on Tuesday as Tokyo closed +0.3%, Shanghai +0.3% and Hong Kong -1.2%.

B&M European Value Retail SA reported 2.4% growth in Q1 revenue despite wet weather in the UK, helped by higher volumes across its businesses.

 

Experian says their COO Craig Boundy is to step down as they report that their Q1 revenue increased 7% at actual exchange rates.

 

Ocado reported a lower H1 loss and have raised their financial guidance for the FY. They now expect their key technology solutions division to achieve a “mis-teens” EBITDA margin in the full 2023-24 year, versus previous guidance of over 10%. They have also forecast that their underlying cash flow would improve by £150m, ahead of previous expectations of £100m.

 

Rio Tinto reported that Q2 iron ore shipments below analyst estimates reflecting impacts to production from a train derailment in May.
