Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -30 points at 8,224. UK 100 is set to open lower on Monday after a weekend of political uncertainty in the US, which saw an assassination attempt on Donald Trump and Joe Biden reassure supporters that he will stand for re-election. On Friday Wall Street ended higher with the Dow, S&P & Nasdaq all closing +0.6%. In Asia Shanghai was down marginally, while Hong Kong closed -1.3%. China’s economy grew 4.7% YoY in Q2 2024, but it was less than the 5.1% analysts had expected.

Company News:

Burberry CEO Jonathan Akeroyd leaves immediately “by mutual agreement” with the board and will be replaced by Joshua Schulman. They have suspended their dividend for 2025 as they expect to post an operating loss in H1 after a disappointing Q1 performance.

 

Me Group International says the group continues to see positive trading momentum in H2.

 

Unilever will cut 3,200 office jobs in Europe by late 2025 as they are seeking to save 800m euros over the next 3 years.
