Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +21 points at 7,565.  The UK 100 is expected to open higher on Tuesday following gains in the US on Monday and some good news for the Bank of England this morning after figures from the Office for National Statistics showed a larger than expected drop in wage inflation.  Average weekly earnings excluding bonuses rose by 7.3% in the three months through October, compared to the expectation of 7.4% and last month’s 7.7% growth.  On Wall Street, the Dow Jones closed 157.06 points higher, 0.4%, at 36,404.93. The S&P rose 18.07 points, or 0.4%, at 4,622.44, and the Nasdaq advanced 28.51 points, or 0.2%, at 14,432.49.   Later today, US inflation figures will be released while the two-day FOMC meeting kicks off.

AstraZeneca are to buy Icosavax for $1.1bn, which will close in Q1 2024.

 

Chemring Group report a FY23 pretax profit of £44.1m, down from £47.9m YoY. They propose a final dividend per share of 4.6p, up 21% YoY, with total dividend being 6.9p. Their focus continues to be on expanding the group’s product and they expect their FY23 momentum to continue into FY24.

 

GSK says Japan health ministry accepts Arexvy application to prevent RSV disease.

 

Telecom stocks (BT Group & Vodafone): Ofcom proposes ban on inflation-linked mid-contract price rises by telecom firms and says phone, broadband and pay TV providers must tell customers upfront about price rises.
