The UK 100 called to open +8 points at 7,596. The UK 100 looks set to open higher once again this morning ahead of US inflation figures which will take centre stage today. The US CPI report is expected to show that inflation increased at a 3.3% annual pace in July, up from 3.0% in June, marking the first acceleration since June 2022, while the core measure, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, is expected to ease slightly to 4.7% from 4.8%. US markets closed yesterday lower ahead of the inflation print while Asian markets were mixed.
Antofagasta reported a 7.5% increase in their H1 profit on rising sales volumes of copper, gold and molybdenum, higher realise by-product prices and a stronger Chilean peso. They recorded an EBITDA for H1 of $1.33bn up from $1.24bn YoY.
Beazley announce that their CFO Sally Lake will step down in 2024.
Deliveroo have upgraded their FY earnings guidance after a resilient H1 in challenging conditions that saw its total orders number fall 6%. They expect to make an EBITDA of £60-80m for the year, up from its previous £20-50m forecast.
Entain reported a rise in HY core profit, boosted by strong performance in online gaming and an increase in active customers. They have taken a £585m provision as part of an investigation by Britain’s tax authority. They posted a 6% increase in their core profit to £499.4m in H1.
Persimmon reported a H1 pretax profit of £151m off revenues of £1,190m. Thei H1 adjusted new housing gross margin came in at 21.5%. They state that they “remain on track to deliver our profit expectations for the year”.
Watches of Switzerland says their Q1 performance is in line with expectations.
