Global equities are mixed, the UK UK Index under-performing despite more gains for oil and a weaker GBP as weakness elsewhere holds the index back from a new record high. The German DAX and US Dow (today’s outperformer) may be back from fresh overnight records, but remain positive, helped by macro data (Eurozone Retail Sales offset poor German industrial Production), M&A and Trump, thus far, refraining from any foot-in-mouth situations in Asia.
The UK 100 is dragged lower by general weakness despite a weaker GBP, most notably by ABF (retail results OK, sugar not), BATS (IMB results read-across), AZN/DGE (profit taking), GSK (continued pressure) SHP (3750p support-turned-resistance?), GFS (all regions growing ex ME & India) and LLOY. Winners include BP/RDSb (oil up on Saudi concerns), IMB (results), BLT/RIO/AAL (metals up in China) and HSBC. Germany’s DAX sees general index positivity from a stronger USD pushing the EUR lower being offset by disappointing Q3 results from BMW.
The UK Index 100 has pulled back below 7545, but holds its uptrend. The DAX 30 has retreated below 13500 to shallow November rising support. Dow Jones Futures have pulled back from a fresh record high of 23,625. Gold has turned back from $1283, again.
