Index Focus - 7 March 2017

Global equities are flat at midday, sentiment held back by a combination of; 1) another lower US close; 2) looming Fed rate rise meaning further central bank divergence; 3) geopolitical risk (NK, UK, FR, NL); 4) some poor corporate results; 5) OECD warning on politics, rates and protectionism, and; 6) Snap’s new life as a listed company hitting a bump.

The UK’s UK 100 sees strength from the likes of ULVR, RIO, BATS, WPP, RDSb and RB offsetting weakness from by PPB, AHT, RBS, SSE, TSCO and SL. On the continent, Germany’s DAX sees Banks and Utilities countering gains by Autos.

The UK Index 100 trades 7340-7370, continuing to consolidate the recent 200pt rally. The DAX 30 remains sideways, buoyed by rising support at 11950 following yesterday’s 12000 break-down. Dow Jones Futures hold rising support at 20900 following a 270pt 2-day sell-off. Gold has almost retreated all the way to $1220 1-month  support.
