Equities have started the week where they left off – positively – even if off their best levels. This is thanks to another uneventful weekend geopolitically, helping the UK 100 hold its 7200 bounce, while the US Dow futures remain close to record highs, although the German DAX is trailing after the EUR strengthened versus GBP.
The UK UK 100 is buoyed by gains for HSBC (Asian calm), BP (higher oil price), BAE Systems (Qatari jet order), Telecoms (defensive) and DGE (GBP off highs) outdoing the negative contribution from Tobacco (FDA revised guidance on products incl. E-cigs) and AZN (continued profit taking)
The German DAX is breakeven as gains for VW, Deutsche Boerse, Deutsche Post, Infineon, Siemens and RWE are countered by EUR strength and losses for ProSieben, Merck and Adidas.
The UK Index 100 has pulled back to successfully test 7230 for support. The DAX 30 retains potential for a bullish flag to 12750. Dow Jones Futures are hovering just shy of 22350 highs. Gold trades a new falling channel $1310-1330.
