Index Focus - 17 November 2016

Equities are mixed this morning, the UK’s UK Index trying to make headway from support but hindered by overnight highs. A mix of stocks are again bookending the index in terms of drivers, defensives and Miners helping while healthcare and domestic banks hinder. A USD Basket off its highs, helping EUR/USD hold up, is hampering DAX exporters, while banks pull the index into the red. Wall St futures are flat as a pancake. While we talked of looming political uncertainty in Europe yesterday, oil minister comment shenanigans have returned to keep us on our toes amid the run-in to OPEC’s end-month meeting in Vienna. Fed chair Yellen also speaks later.

The  UK 100  trades a tight 6750-6780 range, between rising support and overnight highs. Breakout or breakdown? The DAX 30 is testing yesterday’s lows of 10605. Bounce or breach? Dow Jones Futures are at the apex of a narrowing pattern at 18870. Bullish continuation pattern to continue post-election rally? Gold is having attempt at recent $1231 resistance. Bullish reversal possible if we break out to $1235.

Where next?
  1. Will the index fall towards lows of 6520 or;
  2. Will the index rise towards highs of 7000?
