Equities are higher Friday mid-morning with the UK’s UK 100 just shy of all-time highs, still offering potential to build on an already record streak of successive daily gains (13) and record closing highs (11). Today’s UK Index drivers are Oil majors on production cut hopes and record Chinese imports, a Pharma rebound after Trump’s shot across the bow on pricing, Miners pushing ever higher and financials in anticipation of a positive report card from US counterparts today . These are overpowering minimal drag from a mix of Defensives and Sterling off its overnight lows. Germany’s DAX is outperforming in spite of hindering EUR strength as Financials lead the way and US Dow Jones awaits a catalyst to move it from just above breakeven.
The UK 100 is holding overnight lows of 7315. Bounce or break? The DAX 30 has found support at 11560 to get back on-track with its 1-month uptrend. Back to recent highs? Dow Jones Futures are sideways within a tight 19880-19900 range. Which way will they break? Gold is holding its 2017 uptrend after bouncing off $1191 but struggling to crack $1198 to regain $1200 and recent $1205 highs.
