Budget 2016: Be worried when a Chancellor is touting stability over growth

I’ve often wondered why the onus is always put on ‘growth’ rather than ‘stability’ at times like this, but I certainly never expected the Chancellor to switch to a stability–based budget statement. While Osborne was upbeat on the UK’s economy (a pat on the back for himself), it seems the wider ‘cocktail of risks’ he spoke of now contains enough of the unknown blue drink someone brought back from that stag do in Prague to really do us some damage.

Today’s statement sought to reassure us all that it’s the rest of the world’s fault the future pace of UK growth is under threat – that we’d be just fine if it weren’t for those pesky global financial markets – but that’s a strange argument from someone who wants us to vote to remain within the EU!
