Sports Direct’s Mike Ashley Bets on Tesco Recovery — Market Talk
Dow Jones – 25 Sept 2014
UK businessman Mike Ashley is betting that Tesco will be able to bounce back from its troubles. Through Sports Direct International, Ashley — who also owns UK soccer club Newcastle United — has bet that Tesco shares will rise, through a put option for 23 million Tesco shares with Goldman Sachs. He did something similar in January with Debenhams-but those shares have since fallen 25% in value, says Mike van Dulken at Accendo Markets. The Debenhams bet could cost Sports Direct a maximum of GBP64 million if it goes bad; the Tesco bet could ultimately cost a maximum of GBP43 million, the firm said.

Tesco – No Longer a Viable Investment, Says Accendo — Market Talk
Dow Jones – 22 Sept 2014
Supermarket giant Tesco (TSCO.LN) is no longer a viable investment, says Marc Kimsey at Accendo Markets. “Traders are clearing the books of all holdings and reallocating funds in sector peers. The last two years have tested investors’ patience but with the dividend being cut back and today’s revelation, justification to hold is non-existent.” Tesco announced Monday it had overstated its most recent profit forecast by GBP250 million. Tesco shares trade 10% lower at 207p
