Standard Chartered Shoots Up as CEO Promises Fresh Plan
Dow Jones – 10 Jun
–Standard Chartered tops the UK 100 , with shares up 6.2%. The WSJ reported that the bank’s CEO had written a staff memo saying he expects to have a plan in place by year end to help the bank strengthen its financial position. Also, gains follow HSBC’s announcement that it is aiming to cut costs and scale back operations. Perhaps investors are hoping new CEO Bill Winters, who started at Standard Chartered today, will offer a shareholder-pleasing restructuring plan. Accendo Markets adds, “S&P’s affirmation of Standard Chartered’s long- and short-term credit ratings late yesterday may also serve to give a slight boost to sentiment…and the bounce from the technically significant 100-day moving-average could help deliver further gains and share price recovery.” ([email protected] / @ATryphonides)
