Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +26 points at 8,221. The UK 100 looks set to open on the front foot today, this comes after data out this morning showed The UK’s annual rate of inflation has increased in line with expectations to 2.6%.  The figure for November compared with the 2.3% reported the previous month.  Bank of England policymakers are forecast to keep interest rates at 4.75% when they conclude their two-day meeting tomorrow.

It was a stronger performance for Asia markets this morning, with the Hang Seng index up 0.8% on hopes of support for China’s economy in 2025.

The Dow Jones entered the history books Tuesday with its first nine-day losing streak since 1978.  The 30-stock average slid 267.58 points, or 0.61%, to settle at 43,449.90. The S&P lost 0.39% and closed at 6,050.61, while the Nasdaq dropped 0.32% to end at 20,109.06.
