The UK 100 called to open +52 points at 8,330. The UK 100 looks set to open higher today, following the lead from Wall Street yesterday.
Yesterday on Wall Street saw a mixed bag for the major indices, the Dow Jones struck a new intraday and closing high, while the S&P also approached record highs as investors await the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and meeting tomorrow. The tech heavy Nasdaq however gave up ground, lead lower by the likes of Apple and Nvidia.
The S&P added 0.13%, ending at 5,633.09. The Dow Jones advanced 228.30 points, or 0.55%, ending at 41,622.08, meanwhile, the Nasdaq dropped 0.52%, falling to 17,592.13.
BP plans to sell its US onshore wind business, bp Wind Energy, as the company seeks to develop renewables projects through its solar business Lightsource bp. bp Wind Energy has interests in ten onshore wind sites across seven US states, of which it operates nine. Its assets have a combined gross generation capacity of 1.7 gigawatts, of which 1.3 gigawatts is net to BP. Operations are controlled at a remote centre in Houston, Texas. BP said it plans to launch a formal sale process shortly, with the division to be sold as an integrated business and workforce. The company noted all of wind energy’s assets are grid-connected and “providing power to a range of offtakers”. The decision to divest was made as “part of our strategy of continuing to simplify our portfolio and focus on value,” said Executive Vice President William Lin.
Flutter Entertainment today announces that it has agreed to acquire Snaitech S.p.A, one of Italy’s leading omni-channel operators, from a subsidiary of Playtech plc, for cash consideration based on an enterprise value of €2.3b1.

Kingfisher this morning announced that trading was in line with expectations, with adjusted pre-tax profit (PBT) dipping half a percentage point to £334 million and top-line sales dipping 1.4%. It marks a considerable improvement from the 29% falling in adjusted PBT in the first half of 2023, suggesting a welcome recovery in the DIY market.
Learning Technologies Group has pointed to high inflation and the growth in AI adoption as it posted a drop in revenues and cut back its forecasts. LTG cut back its full-year revenue guidance from between £480m and £500m to between £473m £493m owing to exchange rate fluctuations, and said it expected to land at the bottom end of the new range.
The Hut Group this morning announced continued sales growth but FX headwinds. Momentum in Nutrition pleasing. Expect to be lower end of forecasts. Progressing with demerger Ingenuity. Transfer of shares so THG can become eligible for inclusion in FTSE UK index series.
