Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +2 points at 8,275.  The UK 100 looks set to open modestly higher, this morning, the Office of National Statistics has released its monthly report on public sector finances, showing borrowing last month was almost £2 billion higher than a year ago, this follows slight pullbacks in both the US yesterday and Asia this morning

Stocks ticked lower on Tuesday, ending a winning streak as investors failed to build on the market’s recent recovery rally.  The Dow Jones slid 61.56 points, or 0.15%, to 40,834.97. The S&P slid 0.2% to 5,597.12, while the Nasdaq shed 0.33% to 17,816.94.

In Asia this morning shares experienced a dip as the global rebound in stocks took breath. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng traded 1% lower, influenced by JD.com’s 10% slump after Walmart decided to sell its large stake. Japan’s Nikkei initially fell 1%, struggling near the 38,000 level, but recovered slightly to a 0.3% loss heading to the close.

Barclays completed a buy back of 5.8m shares at average price of 226.84p on Tuesday.

 

Britain’s competition regulator said on Wednesday it has “reasonable grounds to believe” that homebuilders Barratt and Redrow would complete their merger following a court approval of the scheme.

 

Vodafone completed a buy back of 20.5m shares at average price of 73.89p on Tuesday.
