Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +30 points at 8,198.  The UK 100 looks set to get the week off to a positive start, the UK’s blue chip index will look to build on a strong finish to last week after global markets were hit by weaker US jobs data earlier in the month.

Asian markets largely climbed overnight, including India’s Nifty 50 by 0.25%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 enjoyed a 0.6% gain.

Stocks ticked up on Wall Street on Friday as the stock market built on its incredible comeback from Monday’s violent rout. The broad market index ended the week just shy of completely reversing its weekly losses.  The S&P advanced 0.47% to finish at 5,344.16. The Nasdaq added 0.51% to close at 16,745.30. The Dow Jones inched up 51 points, or 0.13%, to end at 39,497.4.

BT Group has announced India’s Bharti Global has taken a stake in the FTSE 100 telecoms firm.  Altice UK, BT’s top shareholder, will sell a 24.5% stake to Bharti under the agreement, with 9.99% being transferred initially

 

Marshalls reported a 13% decline in revenue to £306.7m and a 19% drop in adjusted operating profit to £34m for its first half on Monday. The FTSE 250 company said that, despite challenging market conditions, it partially mitigated the impact through management actions and diversification, while maintaining an interim dividend of 2.6p. Its board said it was confident that the full-year results would align with previous expectations.
