Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -52 points at 8,125.  The UK 100 looks set to open lower this morning ahead of today’s US weekly jobless claims data, amid recession fears for the worlds largest economy.  Stocks closed lower Stateside on Wednesday, having started the session significantly higher as the market’s attempt to fully recover from Monday’s sell-off failed. The Dow Jones fell 234.21 points, or 0.60%, to 38,763.45. The S&P declined 0.77% and ended at 5,199.50, while the Nasdaq dropped 1.05% to close at 16,195.81.  In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index is 0.7% lower but the Hang Seng index and Shanghai Composite are moderately higher.
