Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

AstraZeneca raised their sales and profit forecast for 2024 and topped analyst expectations for Q2 revenue, buoyed by demand for its therapies for cancer and rare diseases.

British American Tobacco reported a 1.3% rise in H1 profit, exceeding analyst expectations.

BT Group state they are on track to deliver its financial outlook for the year and its cash flow targets up to 2030. Tight cost control have helped increase earning in Q1, despite a fall in revenue that was in-line with expectations.

Centrica reported a fall in H1 adjusted operating profit as the energy market moved towards a more normalised operating environment amid reduced price volatility.

ITV reported a 10% rise in total advertising revenue in H1, which it said was ahead of expectations, benefiting from Euro 2024. They are on track to deliver the 2026 Key Performance Indicator targets it previously set out.

Lloyds reported a 14% fall in H1 pretax profit to £3.3bn, broadly in line with forecasts, as lending margins held firm in the face of mounting competition. Analysts had been expecting a statutory pretax profit of £3.21bn for H1 and £1.58bn for Q2. They reported a 2.94% net interest margin, a key profit metric that measures the gap between what the bank pays savers and charges borrowers, matching forecasts. They left their performance guidance for the rest of the year unchanged, saying they were confident in meeting their targets for this year and out to 2026. They pledged an interim dividend of 1.06p per share, up 15% YoY. There were no further provisions for the probe into overcharging by motor finance lenders.

Unilever reported a worse-than-expected underlying quarterly sales after it was unable to win back shoppers it had alienated in recent years with higher prices.

Vodafone reported a 5.4% rise in service revenue for Q1, a slowdown on the previous three quarters, after its biggest market Germany went into reverse due to changes in cable TV regulation. Their performance was in line with guidance for the FY.
