Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -40 points at 8,169. UK 100 is set to open lower this morning after subdued consumer confidence data and UK retail sales data missed. Consumer confidence in the UK has been subdued increase amid a “wait and see” stance on the economy, figures suggest. The US ended lower with the Dow closing -1.3%, S&P -0.8% and Nasdaq -0.7%. In Asia Tokyo closed -0.2%, Shanghai fractionally higher and Hong Kong -2%.

Hargreaves Lansdown state they have seen strong growth in new customer and a rise in net new business in Q4, after more investors made tax-saving investments at the end of the fiscal year. Net new clients were up 85% for the three months ended June 30th, with net new business at £1.6bn.
