Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -21 points at 8,145.  The UK 100 looks set to open lower this morning as the UK heads a day closer to the General Election.  Stocks were higher on Wall Street Monday with the Nasdaq closing at a record, as Wall Street looked to maintain the strong momentum seen in the first half of 2024. The tech-heavy Nasdaq advanced 0.83% to end at 17,879.30, a closing high for the index. The S&P added 0.27%, closing at 5,475.09. The Dow Jones ticked higher by 50.66 points, or 0.13%, to close at 39,169.52.

Company News:

Sainsburys notes strong sustained grocery momentum in the 16 weeks to June 22nd as they made the largest market share gains of any grocer during the quarter as their sales increased 4.2% YoY. Argos sales were down 6.2% YoY against a “particularly strong comparative period”. They continue to expect a FY25 retail underlying operational profit of £1-1.06bn.

 

Ryanair reports 19.3m passengers in June, up 11% YoY with a load factor of 95%.

 

Wizz Air carries 5.3m passengers in June at a 91.7% load factor.
