The UK 100 called to open +48 points at 8,190. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning following fresh record highs yesterday on Wall Street and a strong showing this morning from Asian Markets. The S&P added 0.77% to finish at 5,473.23, while the Nasdaq surged 0.95% to settle at 17,857.02. The Dow Jones added 188.94 points, or 0.49%, to end at 38,778.10 and snap a four-day losing streak. In Asia, the Nikkei traded 0.8% higher at 38,407, while the Shanghai index was 0.22% higher at 3,022, the Hang Seng bucked the trend trading 0.32% lower at 17,879.
Ashtead Group report a FY24 pretax profit of $2.11bn, down from $2.16bn YoY due to the higher interest rate environment they are operating in. They state that end market in North America are robust with healthy demand as the company is in a position of strength with operational flexibility.
AstraZeneca notes Truqap plus paclitaxel does not meet dual primary endpoints in trial.
Telecom Plus says their FY24 adjusted pretax profit was slightly ahead of market expectations.
Whitbread says they are confident in their FY outlook and are making good progress on cost cutting. Their Q1 sales increased 1% to £739m driven by improved UK trading and continued progress in Germany. Premier Inn UK Q1 accommodation sales were in line with last year as their UK RevPAR decreased 2% YoY.
