Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +33 points at 8,197.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning, rebounding from yesterdays sharp fall, this comes after the Bank of Japan left interest rates unchanged overnight.  This let to a mixed session in Asia, the Nikkei in Tokyo was up 0.4%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.1%, while the Hang Seng index in was down 0.5%.  Stateside yesterday saw the broad market index climbed 0.23% to end at 5,433.74, while the Nasdaq advanced 0.34% and closed at 17,667.56. Thursday marked the fourth straight closing record for both S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. The Dow Jones was the underperformer: It slipped 65.11 points, or 0.17%, to end at 38,647.10.

Crest Nicholson Holdings confirms they received an all-share takeover approach from Bellway, which was rejected on May 14th as it undervalued the company.

 

Tesco have maintained their profit guidance for the year as they reported a 4.6% rise in underlying UK sales in Q1, winning market share. They have kept their forecast for retail adjusted operating profit of “at least” £2.8bn for its 2024/25 year, up from £2.76bn made in 2023/24.
