Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -37 points at 8,146.  The UK 100 looks set to open lower today ahead of key Macro data out of the US later today, the GDP number, a key gauge of inflation is being seen as fairly pivotal as bond yields continue to rise, could this be the positive catalyst needed to turn the recent loosing streak for equities around? Mood in Asia this morning was equally cautious, with the Nikkei & Hang Sang both down 1.5%.  On Wall Street yesterday the Dow Jones dropped 1.1%, the S&P dropped 0.7% and the Nasdaq completed the bleak session, albeit the smallest of the falls, giving up 0.6%.

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Anglo American: BHP Group have confirmed they do not intend to make a firm offer for Anglo American, hours after the latter rejected its request for an extension to a bid deadline.

Darktrace COO Nick Trim will step down end of June and will be replaced by Jill Popelka.

Dr Martens report a FY24 pretax profit of £93m, down 42% YoY from £159.4m. They have sold 11.5m pairs of boots in FY24, down 17% from 13.8m in FY23 as the US region saw disappointing trading and they are implementing a plan to return it to growth. Their current trading is in line with expectations for FY25 as they expect a 20% decline in revenue in H1 FY25, driven by wholesale revenue being down by a third as FY25 results are to be very H2 weighted, especially for profit.
