Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +40 points at 7,963.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning, this comes after this mornings UK GDP data came in higher than expected, a 0.2% retraction beating the consensus expectations of a 0.4% retraction.  This mornings gains would all but eradicate yesterday’s late fall following comments made by the IMF on early rate cuts.  Analysts are now predicting the first interest rate cut from the Bank of England will come in September rather than August, with only two cuts this year.  On Wall Street yesterday, the S&P jumped and the Nasdaq closed at a record Thursday as tech shares climbed higher, rebounding from an earlier pullback over concerns of persistent inflation.  The S&P gained 0.74% to close at 5,199.06. The Nasdaq added 1.68% to end the day at 16,442.20, a record level. The Dow Jones however, underperformed and slipped 2.43 points, or 0.01%, at 38,459.08.
