Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +5 points at 7,940.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning, having endured a difficult start to the trading quarter.  Overnight, US stocks mostly finished below their best levels, with the Dow Jones dipping 0.1% but the S&P 500 inching up 0.1% and the Nasdaq 0.2% higher, with most of the tech megacaps in positive territory, Nvidia and Microsoft being the exceptions.  It was a brighter picture across Asian markets this morning, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index surged by 1.7% alongside a decline in the yen. Japan’s Topix index also experienced a significant uptick of 1.6%, while South Korea’s Kospi index rose by 1%.

DS Smith said talks with peer Mondi are continuing over a possible merger, so the U.K. Takeover Panel has extended the bid deadline.  The packaging company said Thursday that the Takeover Panel has extended the deadline for Mondi to either make an offer for it or walk away until April 23. The previous deadline was today.

 

 

Future PLC said it is on track to deliver results for the fiscal year in line with expectations after to revenue growth in its second quarter.
