The UK 100 called to open +24 points at 7,977. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning after the long bank holiday weekend, encouraged higher by news that shop price inflation faded to a more than three-year low last month. Shop prices in March were up 1.3% on a year ago, according to an index compiled by the British Retail Consortium and NielsenIQ, which was down from 2.5% in February, below the three-month average of 2.2% and the lowest since December 2021. Non-food inflation retreated to 0.2% from 1.3% a month earlier, while food inflation softened from 5.0% in February to 3.7% in March, the lowest reading since April 2022. It was a mixed session on Wall Street yesterday, The 30-stock Dow Jones lost 240.52 points, or 0.6%, and settled at 39,566.85. The S&P dipped 0.2% to close at 5,243.77. The tech heavy Nasdaq on the other hand, added 0.11% to finish at 16,396.83.
HSBC Holdings plc completed the sale of HSBC Bank Canada and its subsidiaries to Royal Bank of Canada on 28 March 2024.
Revolution Bars Group PLC said its shares have been temporarily suspended from trading on AIM, after the company failed to publish interim results in time.
Shanta Gold said the recommended cash offer by Saturn Resources had received unconditional approval from the Competition Authority of Kenya.
