Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +66 points at 7,735.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning after softer than expected job numbers this morning, which showed UK unemployment rate has unexpectedly risen to 3.9% in the three months to January, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics, from 3.8% before, where it was expected to remain.  Average weekly earnings in the period were up 5.6% on the same period a year ago, down more than expected from the 5.8% a month ago.  This may be seen as an encouraging sign for the Bank of England as it seeks to cut interest rates.  Stateside yesterday saw The S&P pull back on Monday as the rally that brought the major averages to record highs cooled off.  The broad S&P slipped 0.11% to 5,117.94.  The Nasdaq slid 0.41% to 16,019.27, as technology stocks struggled. Both saw their second negative sessions in a row. The Dow Jones reversed earlier losses to add 46.97 points, or 0.12%, to finish at 38,769.66.
