Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +63 points at 7,693.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning, this comes after a strong showing on Wall Street yesterday after PCE data yesterday showed US consumer prices increased at their slowest rate in nearly three years, according to the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation.  The Nasdaq advanced Thursday, rising to its first closing record since November 2021. The tech-heavy index jumped 0.90% to close at an all-time high at 16,091.92, as tech stocks and chips rallied into the close. The S&P also popped to a record close, rising 0.52% to end at 5,096.27. The Dow Jones ticked higher by 0.12% to 38,996.39.

Company News:

Babcock agrees a £560m contract for maintenance of HMS Victorious submarine, which will bring around 1,000 jobs to the Southwest.

 

IMI reports a FY pretax profit of £302m as they expect their 2024 FY adjusted EPS to be between 120-126p.

 

ITV has sold their entire 50% interest in BritBox International to the BBC for £255m.

 

Pearson met market expectations by reporting a 2023 operating profit of £573m, up 31% on an underlying basis, underpinned by strong demand for English language courses.

 

Rightmove have forecast their growth in revenue to be 7-9% for the current financial year after they reported a rise in 2023 profit, in line with market expectations, buoyed by resilient traffic on its real estate portal. They poste a 7% rise in operating profit at £258m for the year ended Dec 31st, compared with average analyst forecasts of £258.3m.
