The UK 100 called to open +24 points at 7,513. The UK 100 is expected to open higher on Wednesday, following Asian markets higher, as they shrugged off the US caution and powered ahead with gains for the Nikkei and the Hang Seng. In focus today will be another indicator of the health of the US labour market. The ADP jobs report will be released today with consensus expecting 130,000 job additions, picking up from 113,000 in October, with non-farm payrolls figures to be released on Friday. On Wall Street The Dow Jones and the S&P slid on Tuesday as a recent rally on Wall Street lost steam. The 30-stock Dow slid 79.88 points, or 0.22%, to close at 36,124.56. The S&P inched lower by 0.06% to 4,567.18. The Nasdaq was the stand out performer gaining 0.31% to end at 14,229.91 as technology shares outperformed.
Barclays: CitiGroup and Bank of America were left holding some shares in Barclays after they could not identify enough demand for a £510m stake sold by Qatar Holdings.
British American Tobacco have maintained their FY revenue growth forecast at 3-5%, but said they expect it to be at the lower end of this range. They expect low single digit growth in revenue and adjusted profit from operations in 2024.
Diageo are seeking to divest their beer portfolio on margin concerns, except for their flagship brand Guinness.
Entain have received a final approval from a UK judge for the settlement of charges stemming from alleged bribery offences at their former Turkish unit.
Rio Tinto have brought forward the start of production from its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea to 2025, with plans to spend around $6.2bn including on port and rail infrastructure.
TUI report a FY23 pretax profit of 551m euros, verses a loss of 146m euros YoY. They expect their revenue to grow 10% in FY24 as their expected underlying EBIT up 25% in FY24. They are also considering delisting from the London Stock Exchange and upgrading to a prime standard listing in Frankfurt. They will put forward this resolution on delisting from the UK at an AGM in February.
Weir Group announces a 2026 operating margin target of 20%.
