Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +44 points at 7,335. The UK 100 is expected to start the week on the front foot despite ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East and ahead a busy week of central bank decisions.  This comes after a tough end to the week Stateside on Friday, the Dow fell 366.71 points, or 1.12% to close at 32,417.59. The S&P slipped 0.48% to finish the session at 4,117.37, closing 10.3% lower from this year’s peak on July 31.  The Nasdaq was the stand out performer, gaining 0.38% to trade at 12,643.01.

Glencore report that their FY 2023 production guidance for Copper, Zinc, Coal and Cobalt remains in line with previous guidance. They reported Copper production of 735,800 tonnes, which was 34,700 tonnes (5%) lower than the same period in 2022. Zinc production was down 4% YoY and Nickel was down 16% YoY.

 

 

GSK phase 3 Ruby trial meets survival endpoint for treating endometrial cancer.

 

 

HSBC reported a 240% increase in their Q3 pretax profit as higher interest rates boosted the bank’s profitability and helped it fund a fresh $3bn share buyback. They reported a Q3 pretax profit of $7.7bn, verses $3.2bn a year earlier, but below the $8.1bn average of analyst estimates.

 

 

Pearson have upgraded their annual adjusted operating profit guidance by around £20m, to £575m, boosted by demand for it assessments and qualifications.
